Default The extra charge of 3D movies: Is it worth it?

I'm just thinking, you see. I saw UP in 3D and we paid the extra money to see it in 3D. It was a great movie, but I don't see anything that couldn't be rendered in 2D. PErhaps 3D is not such a good innovation after all?

So you're asking if it would really make a difference if a movie is shot in 3D? Will it make the movie more moving, or the characters more believable? In the case of Up, did itmake the characters cuter? My answer is no.

Hmmmn... I don't have an opinion on that, I've honestly haven't thought about how a 3D movie would look like if it were filmed in 2D.

With the current economic recession, I do think that movie theatres and outfits should give us a choice whether we want 3D or 2D.

Or at least, maybe they could allow people to reuse their 3D glasses, that would somehow cut the price of a 3D movie, would it?

That sets me wondering as well. Would 3D effects have made a difference to the story telling?

I saw an article about this in Entertainment Weekly. They say that producers wanted the audience to be "in the movie" not just watching it. Somehow using 3D to transport you into the movie.

I would think that 3D's main goal is to get people to spend at the movie theatres rather than watching it at home. While it's true that you can pretty much watch a 3D movie on your 3D TV, it's just not the same as watching it on the big screen.

I also think that 3D is a great way for movie studios to rehash old films and release it as a new offering. Like Toy Story 1 and 2, which will be released sometime in Oct. in 3D!

It raises a question in my head. If you say that 3D movies give you an experience that is better in cinemas, one that you can't replicate at home, that would mean you'd be forced to watch movies in the theatre, won't it? And since watching at the theatres are quite expensive, is that a bad thing?
