Have you seen the Nintendo report that revealed the lifetime sales of their consoles? The Wii has sold more than 67 million units in just under 4 years. It was launched in 2006. The DS (all versions, including Lite DSi ad LL) sold more than 125 million units since 2004. It may be wrong to compare, but can you imagine that the Wii sold 17 million per year, while DS sold 25 million units per year. So it's really the DS that's really making money for Nintendo.

Can you imagine that a quarter of all Wiis available around the world right now were sold beween the 9 months from April to December 2009? That is how strong Wii was last year. Even as their numbers declined year on year.

Nintendo actually predicts that for the last quarter, it will have some 3 million units more sold, which is basically in line with other quarters. They expect to turn more than twice as many DS units for that same period.

Nintendo's latest quarterly financials, however, reveals that the company has dwindling sales. Sales for the company only amounted to $13.09 billion for the nine months ending December 31, 2009. The drop is like 23% from the previous year.

Even with that drop, you have to take into consideration that Nintendo had a record year in 2008. That is why everything pales in comparison!
