Default Sky + HD

With more than 2 million HD subscribers in the UK and Ireland, HD has started to become the standard when it comes to TV viewing. So what does Sky do?

Launch its 3D channel of course. The good news is, if everything goes according to plan, we're going to have an exclusively 3D channel from Sky come April this year. And it seems that Sky is right on target with its first live 3D sports broadcast of the Premiere League match between Manchester United and Arsenal.

I heard that they used 8 camera for that broadcast. And that they both had 3D and regular coverage.

I saw that in one London bar, but I don't think it's right to call it the first 3D broadcast or even the first live 3D broadcast.

I know. Sky says that it was the first in Europe that is available to the public though.

From what I know, Sky will be offering its 3D channel in bars across the uK, and that's it... it's not going to be publicly available by then.

That means that we would have to go to pubs to see the World Cup in 3D then if we're on Sky!

Yup. But do not fret, you won't have to wait until next year to get 3D at home. Sky has promised that they will roll out 3D to the homes within the year.

And as previously discussed here, no matter what 3D technology is used on your TV, it will be compatible with Sky.

I even read about Sky's Gerry O'Sullivan as saying that 2010 is the year of 3D TV

To those who saw the broadcast, how was it?

Well, to be honest, I had mixed feelings. On one hand, the closeups were really awesome! But outside of that, well, it's nothing out of the ordinary. You still get the feeling that the ball is coming at you, or that the players are going to crash into you, but that's probably it.
